Add a bit of Mariah Carey to your wedding

I am having trouble getting my fiancee to agree to have some sort of Mariah stuff at our wedding… can you suggest some compromises I can make without making the wedding all about Mariah? - Jessie in trouble in Rhode Island

Hi Jessie,
Firstly congratulations on your upcoming wedding, it’s such an exciting time and I found the preparation part of my wedding the most fun, tearing pages from magazines and dreaming of what the day would be like. I think the most important thing to remember you have already mentioned in your question, Compromise. It’s such an important day for you both, if your fiancĂ© doesn’t have the attachment to Mariah that you do it wouldn’t be fair to insist on having everything “Mariahised” but I have some ideas for you that should hopefully get a touch of MC incorporated for you.

Table names – instead of using table numbers, name the tables after your favourite songs, take half the tables each and yours could be Mariah tracks. As a suggestion ‘One Sweet Day,’ ‘Dreamlover,’ ‘Lovin’ You Long Time,’ ‘Always Be My Baby’. Might be best to stay away from Clown, Side Affects lol!

Whilst having your meal you could play instrumental versions of songs, the music is so beautiful and it’s in the background so won’t be overpowering. You could also have your first dance to a Mariah song or get a few of your favourites played by the DJ during the night.

If you wanted a more subtle way of getting a hint of Mariah in the day I would opt for the international sign of a lamb – Butterflies! These are so easy to incorporate into the day that if done tastefully you can have them everywhere! Invitations, flower arrangements, cakes, hair clips, shoes, the list is endless, and you could even treat yourself to some of the lovely jewellery M has shown on HSN. Take a look at the ones I’ve found online.

* Hanging guest cards instead of a guestbook – Available at craft stores
* Your local florist can create something like this for you using more goods from craft stores

Your baker can add butterflies to the cake in all sorts of ways:

You could also consider butterfly cupcake wrappers:

* Heels – You could re-use Mariah Carey’s HSN shoe clips after the big day

Have a wonderful wedding!
