She may be a huge mega star, but Mariah Carey can relate to many women's weight loss journeys. The 41-year-old singer is seen having a girly pow wow with some real Jenny (formerly Jenny Craig) clients in a new commercial for the company. The mother-of-twins is also seen showing off the results of her 30 pound weight loss following the birth of the babies in April, by parading her slender figure in a silver dress.
Preening and pouting for the camera, Mariah flicks her hair around as she poses in the metallic mini dress, her legs looking particularly toned. Her height is boosted by a pair of silver platform shoes and her tresses are coiffed in a voluminous wave.
A more casually dressed Mariah is also seen in between takes chatting to a circle of women about their weight loss. "People say why Jenny? Because Jenny gets results," she explains to the ladies. The superstar singer also carefully listens to the other women as they complain about other programs not working for them. "I tried so many weight loss programs before Jenny and they didn't work," one woman tells her. During the conversation Mariah also asks her gal pals what their favourite food is to snack on.
Mariah has lost more than 30 pounds since the April birth of her twins Monroe and Morocco, and it certainly shows. Her new commercial is yet another campaign in which the Butterfly singer has been confident enough to show off her newly slender self. At the end of last year she flaunted her stomach in another advert for the weight loss system. She appeared in a black bandeau top and sultry black skirt with thigh-high slits in the advertisement.
Mariah announced her role as the company's Brand Ambassador back in November last year. She had gained 30 pounds after the April birth of twins Moroccan Scott and Monroe and felt pressure from the media to shed the weight quickly. She told ABC News: "If they want to rag at me for looking like a huge boat, like that wasn't my fault, I couldn't help it. Carrying two human lives inside me and doing the best I could. What am I going to do?"
She started using the Jenny system herself in July last year; and credits the programme for 30 pounds of her weight loss and 40 pounds to the water weight she shed from her pregnancy. "I'm proud of how hard I worked to get my body back," she said on OWN's Rosie Show. "I had to do this for me."
She discussed her reasons for signing on with the company in a statement. The All I Want For Christmas Is You singer said: "As an artist, I use my voice to entertain. But, today I want to use my voice to draw attention to a serious matter. Two-thirds of the country is placing themselves at risk for heart disease and diabetes. Largely, that is due to unhealthy eating patterns and lack of physical activity."
She finished: "I obtained a greater understanding of this when I was pregnant with my twins and dealing with my own health issues. That's why I feel so strongly about working with Jenny and the American Heart Association to help Americans get serious about their health as it pertains to these issues which are so important."
