It's Official: Mariah Carey Exits 'American Idol'
The singer leaves after a one-season stint on the Fox show, with plans to tour in the fall.
Mariah Carey is leaving American Idol after a one-season stint on the show.
The singer made it official on Thursday afternoon with a tweet that read, "W/ global success of "#Beautiful" (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol." The message was promptly retweeted by Carey's longtime PR firm, PMK-BNC.
Asked for further comment, a representative for the singer points to a "jam-packed" scheduled that includes, "putting the finishing touches on her much anticipated forthcoming album, headlining the Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and appearing in Lee Daniel's The Butler, opening in August." The film's cast also includes Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, Vanessa Redgrave, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Lenny Kravitz.
Carey will also embark on a world tour that kicks off this October in Asia.
The singer's exit from the Fox show had been much speculated. No further announcements have been made regarding Idol's future judging panel, although alum Jennifer Hudson is said to be negotiating for a seat at the season 13 table.
A statement released by production partners Fox and FremantleMedia reads, “Mariah Carey is a true global icon -- one of the most accomplished artists on the planet -- and we feel extremely fortunate that she was able to bring her wisdom and experience to the American Idol contestants this season. We know she will remain an inspiration to Idol hopefuls for many seasons to come.”

Mariah's best quotes from her wardrobe malfunction
It goes without saying that Mariah Carey is fabulous. All the way from her Cinderella-themed wedding vow renewal ceremony to that Azzedine Alaïa couture wardrobe to those superhuman pipes that cemented her status as a household name for decades. Accordingly, when Mimi does something, she does it in a big way, even if that something is as simple or potentially embarrassing as a wardrobe malfunction on live TV. Mariah hit up Good Morning America this morning to pop off the show's annual Summer Concert Series in Central Park. And pop she did! Or rather, her dress did.
If there's one thing we know about Mariah, it's that she loves a good outfit change (remember all those ensembles she tried in the OG run of MTV Cribs?), so it should come as no surprise that she tried to sneak one in for her GMA set juuuust before the debut live performance of "#Beautiful" with Miguel. Welp, it would appear that Mimi's shimmery pink-sequined halter Versace gown was not rigged up for a quick-change as her zipper popped mid-interview. She may have dubbed it "diva drama", but Mariah handles the situation with a kind of goofball grace, keeping her cool and slinging joke after joke. Below is a list of our favorite quotes from the whole ordeal.
"Darling, I was changing. My dress is still unattached. I don't know what we're going to do! We don't want a moment here." *motions at cleavage*
"Diva drama."
"Oh shoot, now the back of my dress just popped. It popped! I love you, Donatella, but it popped, darling."
"I just wanted to change the ensemb, you know? It's just that..." *spins around to show the popped zipper*
"This popped. Is it gonna fall? OK, both of them are out now."
"What should we call this? The Central Park Saga?"
"It seems like several moments. It seems like a YouTube moment. Possible Spotify even."
"Or hey, I'll just hold them up the whole time. What are you gonna do?"

Miguel talks about the hashtag!
Before Miguel crash-landed on fans during the 2013 Billboard Music Awards and became one of the most replayed moments of the whole night, the breakout star was on the blue carpet with us. Miguel reveals what it was like collaborating with Mariah Carey, why the hashtag in the new song "#Beautiful" is so sexy, and relives the first time he heard his music on the radio.

Mariah Carey belts out medley on American Idol final
With former judge Jennifer Lopez scheduled to make a performance comeback later in the show, it was up to Mariah Carey to "really make the show her own", as they often tell the contestants. Carey stood tall in an astonishingly decadent fishtail dress replete with crystals, maribou feathers and was herself dripping in jewels.
Realising perhaps that dancing isn't her strongest point, the 43-year-old dispensed with any gimmicks and just stood still save for a few hand moments as she slammed straight into her incredible back catalogue. She stormed through a seven-minute medley of some of her biggest hits, including Vision of Love, Make it Happen and Hero, before ending with #Beautiful.
The last of those songs debuted at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week as Carey's 45th entry on the chart to date. It was classic Mariah, and though some critics slammed her on Twitter for appearing to lip sync, her fans seemed generally happy with the treasure trove of powerful ditties.
And Mariah had a secret weapon in the form of a certain Mr Randy Jackson. Her fellow judge stepped forward at the end of the song and bashfully accepted the applause still rattling away for Carey's crowd pleasing melange.
Carey could be preparing to bring her minimum thread counts and feathered costumes to a city near you soon. A source told E! that Carey is in discussions for a world tour and with her future on Idol looking uncertain, this could definitely be the way forward for the diva of divas.

Mariah Carey adds to Hot 100 legacy
As "#Beautiful" bounds onto the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 24, Mariah Carey continues as one of the chart's most accomplished visitors dating to its August 4, 1958, launch. The lead single (featuring Miguel) from Carey's 13th studio album marks her 45th Hot 100 hit. Here's an updated look at the women with the most appearances:
73, Aretha Franklin
58, Taylor Swift
56, Madonna
56, Dionne Warwick
53, Connie Francis
48, Brenda Lee
46, Nicki Minaj
45, Mariah Carey
41, Rihanna
41, Barbra Streisand
40, Mary J. Blige
40, Diana Ross
39, Whitney Houston
39, Janet Jackson
(Not to stir up trouble ahead of tonight's "American Idol" season finale, but - since Nicki Minaj has already Tweeted about the topic -: While Carey ups her count by one, fellow "Idol" judge Minaj passes her by charting two debuts this week, pushing her total to 46 career Hot 100 hits. Minaj bows as a featured act on Carly Rae Jepsen's "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" at No. 90 and Rich Gang's "Tapout" at No. 100. Notably, Carey has sported lead billing on 43 of her entries; Minaj, as rappers regularly chart in featured roles, has served as lead on 17 of hers.)
With "#Beautiful" bowing, Carey also claims her 35th top 40 Hot 100 hit, tying Island Def Jam labelmate Rihanna's total. Here's a look at the solo females to make the most visits to the chart's top 40:
49, Madonna
43, Aretha Franklin
41, Taylor Swift
35, Mariah Carey
35, Rihanna
33, Connie Francis
32, Janet Jackson
31, Dionne Warwick
29, Whitney Houston
29, Brenda Lee
Carey continues to boast one of the most vaunted of all Hot 100 records: her 18 No. 1s are the most among solo acts (and second overall only to the Beatles' 20). With 54 million albums sold, Carey is also the best-selling female album artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking U.S. sales in 1991. She trails only overall leader Garth Brooks (68.6 million) and runners-up the Beatles (64.4 million).
Miguel, meanwhile, easily makes his best Hot 100 start with "#Beautiful". Of his prior seven charted titles, he'd debuted as high as No. 82 with his eventual No. 17-peaking "Adorn", still his highest-charted hit.
Momentum for "#Beautiful" should continue: Carey is scheduled to perform the song tonight on the "Idol" season finale when either Candice Glover or Kree Harrison is named the series' newest champion.

American Idol Finale: Mariah Sings, Randy Plays, and Everyone Leaves
Get ready to say good bye tonight to "American Idol" as we've known it. Everyone - with maybe the
exception of Ryan Seacrest - is leaving. Randy Jackson already quit. Nicki Minaj has sent out word that she's gone. Mariah Carey goes with Randy, she's not sticking around. Maybe Keith Urban will stay but I doubt it. He has a new album and a tour.
Tonight both Keith and Mariah perform in pre-taped segments. Mariah will sing a medley of her hits, and then she's goners. Keith sings his catchy new summer single. Some other stuff will happen and a new "American Idol" will be chosen. The ratings will be disappointing.
Whatever happens in the future, whoever comes in as judges, they should take note of what's happened this year on "Idol". The show has been severely compromised. The source of some it was the cooked up war between Mariah and Minaj that began last year. The producers wanted Simon-Paula drama. But they weren't as skilled at manufacturing it as Simon Cowell. It backfired when Carey just wouldn't play along. And then it just got weirder and weirder. How about the show when Nicki was 20 minutes late in L.A. traffic? Yikes.
Randy Jackson will play bass with Carey tonight. He leaves "Idol" with head help up high. After 12 seasons he was always the unifying judge, the glue that held it all together. He's got plenty of projects in the hopper. Replace him with Justin Bieber? Okay, go ahead and try it. Let me know how that works out.
