Joshua Ledet – Without You (Studio)

American Idol contestant Joshua Ledet covers Mariah Carey's "Without You" Here is the studio version.

Nick Cannon: ‘We’re Getting Married Again!’

Since tying the knot on the beach in the Bahamas in 2008, Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey have renewed their vows every year — and with an especially tough year behind him, Nick promises another lavish ceremony on April 30. “It’s gonna be big,” Nick tells the new issue of Life & Style about saying “I do” to Mariah for the fifth time.

It will be even bigger because April 30 also marks the first birthday of Nick and Mariah’s twins, Monroe and Moroccan. “So it’s a family day,” Nick shares with Life & Style. “We’ll celebrate with them during the day and just the two of us at night.”

Diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus nephritis, Nick is focusing on celebrating life with his family this year. “It goes to show you how much things can change,” he confided on March 22 at the Badoo.com launch party in NYC. “In tough times, you lean on family.”

Even at his sickest, Nick never lost faith in his relationship with his wife, Mariah, admitting that marrying her was the best thing to ever happen to him. “We get married every year; it’s our thing,” Nick tells Life & Style. “I just have to keep doing it to make sure it’s real!”

Billboard: Happy Birthday Mariah Carey, Chart Icon

As Mariah Carey celebrates her 42nd birthday today, we've got the perfect present.

Here's a look back at the most notable chart records that Carey has set since she first graced a Billboard survey the week of June 2, 1990, when "Vision of Love" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

(We'd have gotten her a card, but it would've been too tough to list all her accomplishments on one).

With 18 Hot 100 leaders, Carey has totaled the most No. 1s by a female artist. Among all acts, she trails only the Beatles (20) for the most No. 1 songs in the chart's 53-year history.

Here is a listing of Carey's Hot 100 toppers:

1990, "Vision of Love" (four weeks at No. 1)
1990, "Love Takes Time" (three)
1991, "Someday" (two)
1991, "I Don't Wanna Cry" (two)
1991, "Emotions" (three)
1992, "I'll Be There" (two)
1993, "Dreamlover" (eight)
1993, "Hero" (four)
1995, "Fantasy" (eight)
1995, "One Sweet Day," with Boyz II Men (16)
1996, "Always Be My Baby" (two)
1997, "Honey" (three)
1998, "My All" (one)
1999, "Heartbreaker," featuring Jay-Z (two)
2000, "Thank God I Found You," featuring Joe & 98 Degrees (one)
2005, "We Belong Together" (14)
2005, "Don't Forget About Us" (two)
2008, "Touch My Body" (two)

Carey remains the only artist to send her first five Hot 100 entries to No. 1. She bested the mark of four consecutive career-opening leaders set by the Jackson 5 in 1970. The group's fourth No. 1, "I'll Be There," became Carey's sixth 22 years later.

Carey and the quintet were linked from the start: their second No. 1, "ABC," vaulted 14-6 on the Hot 100 the week after her birth.

With 16 weeks at No. 1, "One Sweet Day" holds the record for most weeks spent atop the Hot 100. Carey also ties for second-place with 14 weeks on top for "We Belong Together." (Boyz II Men, co-credited on "Day," boast a 14-week No. 1 of their own, 1994's "I'll Make Love to You".)

Carey has spent a record 79 weeks total atop the Hot 100. The Beatles are second with 59 cumulative frames in charge.

Considering the lengthy dominations of "Day" and "Together," it's not surprising that Carey claimed the top song of the '90s and '00s, respectively, when Billboard compiled the top titles of each decade.

Carey additionally earned the esteemed honor as Billboard's top artist of the '90s.

The superstar ranks as the best-selling female album artist dating to the advent of Nielsen SoundScan data in 1991. At 53.7 million, she trails only Garth Brooks (68.6 million) and the Beatles (63.5) among all artists.

Among women, Carey places ahead of Celine Dion (51.6), Shania Twain (34.1), Britney Spears (32.5) and Reba McEntire (30).

Carey is an artist for all seasons, as her 1994 carol "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the most-downloaded holiday song, according to SoundScan. The song has sold 2.1 million downloads. No other seasonal track has passed even 1 million in digital sales.

How the Internet is saving the music video

I never wanted to be in the movies. I wanted to be in music videos. To this day, I secret-dream of Mariah Carey as Heartbreaker (1999) in liquid denim, throwing popcorn and throwing shade in the movie theatre. Everyone has her preferred teenage fantasy, and there was Lauryn Hill, there was TLC, there was Britney, but mostly, for me, there was Mariah.
Heartbreaker, the song, is still kind of great, but it doesn't exist without the image. Later I would pretend the image didn't matter and stopped watching music videos on television (ew, television) and only when everyone else stopped too - I guess in 2008, when MTV's Total Request Live (TRL) was cancelled and reality shows killed the video star - did I realize we had been idiots.
By now, anyone who's been to an unofficial after-party with a YouTube DJ knows that the death of the music video was widely misreported. What we lost was a far-away projected fantasy, whether it was Carey's heartbreakingly blingy good life or the Bunuel-ish night trip of Bjork's Bachelorette.
What we gained - with the multiplication of iProducts and cheap means of production - was a fantasy that slipped between our eyes and our fingertips and our pockets, was spliced with reality in deceptively simple ways, seemed suddenly more art than film. The Internet has rebirthed the art and practice of music-video making, rendering it as fragmentary and easy and weird as the Internet itself. Video art has its stars, or its YIBAs (Young Internet-Based Artists), from museum-approved Ryan Trecartin to rapidly emerging Petra Cortright.
Mostly, though, its virtual power has yet to be converted to hard cash. Music videos are selling the music, not the video, and so they're more viable, thriving and alive than ever. Look at the new video directed by Emily Kai Bock for the single Oblivion by the Montreal bizarro pop star Grimes (a.k.a. Claire Boucher). In five days, the manic pixie masterpiece garnered some 346,000 YouTube views. If those views equalled record sales, it'd be triple-platinum. She now plans to make a video for every song on her new 12-track album. What would have been unthinkable and frankly stupid only five years ago is now, thanks to the accessibility, cheapness and ease of the technology, probably brilliant.
Toronto director Jose Lourenco made last year's Juno-nominated video for the band the Rural Alberta Advantage for $2,100. In October, some band called the Turnback claimed to have shot the first music video ever entirely on the iPhone 4S. And if I had a dollar for every time I've watched Gregg Araki's sublimely ridiculous, song-redeeming video for Rihanna's We Found Love, I could probably make it myself.
The point of today's most compelling music videos, in which both the means of production and the platforms for viewing are multi-screen technology, isn't to replicate big-budget fantasy. It's to reveal an actuality in which anything is possible. The distinctions between what we see and what we believe have collapsed so far, anyway, that M83's magicky video for Midnight City, in which children find themselves with convenient supernatural powers, seems practically realist.
Same for Youth Lagoon's July video: Everything is daydreamy and suburban and fine, until you realize it's also the apocalypse. If there is - knock on wood or something that looks like wood - another U.S. terrorist attack, most of us will see it first through an Instagram of a tweet on CNN, and we will have no idea whether it's real. Or rather, we'll have many ideas, and not know which to trust.
Exponential possibilities govern new (music) video art, and arguably no one exemplifies that better than CANADA, which in contemporary culture isn't a country (that would be silly), but a video-directing collective from Barcelona. Last year, they made viral-hit videos for bands El Guincho (Bombay), Battles (Ice Cream) and Scissor Sisters (Invisible Light), and if you watched those, you know a Nicki Minaj collaboration can't be very far off.
CANADA's style is a smash-up of soft porn and hard cuts and surrealism and banality; it's like Tumblr on ecstasy. In spirit, it's not far off the YouTube entry for Lana Del Rey's Video Games, the single that launched the face that launched a thousand hand-wringing think pieces. There will be many more music videos like this, combining found imagery in a big first-year-at-art-school way, and none of them will be trying to look like films. They'll be trying to look like the Internet.
Then there are the interactive music videos, which I think are either the latest fad or a new frontier. Last year, director Chris Milk's Google Maps-based video The Wilderness Downtown for Arcade Fire, and then a video-gamey one for Danger Mouse, were Internet sensations.
Last week, Brooklyn buzz band Chairlift released Met Before, a pretty rad choose-your-own-adventure video in which you control the narrative with right or left arrows. "How would MTV host that?" asks Kai Bock, when I e-mail her about that Grimes video. (Which, why are you even reading this when you could be watching it? It's the most adorable.) "It's safe to say that film via the Web will reach unknown heights. The Internet has changed everything about how media are produced and distributed, and now visual culture is shared, produced and reproduced so rapidly. Screens are embedded into our lifestyle." To close the loop, our "lifestyle" - no longer a gross aspirational euphemism, but a good expression of how inseparable the "real" (life) is from the "pretend" (style) - is better reflected on screens.
And there's where I begin to understand why all my favourite music videos feel not like shiny new worlds, but like real-time digital hallucinations, like falling down rabbit holes in the Web. Sound and image have dissolved into nearly one; so have reality and fantasy. We can't quite want to live in music videos any more. If we're on the Internet, we already are.

Mariah's remix back catalogue being released on iTunes

Sony Music has finally begun to digitally release Mariah Carey's back catalogue of maxi singles in the USA and Ireland. Some of the titles now available are "Hero", "Fly away (Butterfly reprise)", "I still believe", "Thank God I found you", "Can't take that away", and "Against all odds".
From her #1's collection, Mariah Carey released her version of the Brenda K. Starr hit "I still believe" as a tribute to the singer who (as legend has it) gave Carey her first break in the music business. Carey's version was a top five hit, largely due to the maxi-single's packaging and marketing, which featured a flesh-baring Carey on the cover and contained five completely distinct versions.
The single opens with Carey's original version of the song, which pales somewhat in comparison to Starr's more passionate interpretation. The second track, "Stevie J. Clean Remix", featuring raps by Mocha and Amil, bringing to mind the backing music one would find in an early-'70s scary Saturday morning cartoon.
The other urban mix, titled "I still believe/pure imagination", features raps by Krayzie Bone and Da Brat, and sounds like a completely different song. That version took on a life of its own, becoming its own hit on the U.S. R&B charts (for all intents and purposes, it should have been its own song, titled "Pure imagination", because, beyond lyrical references, it has absolutely nothing in common with the original song). The mix is, nonetheless, breezy, laid-back, and typical of mid-'90s urban/hip-hop, and features da Brat saying "lose the ego", all the while self-aggrandizing herself.
Finally, two dance/house mixes are included. The first is "Morales' Classic Club Mix", which is a standard, but well-made dance remake, and is quite smooth, with Carey giving a great vocal performance. The second is "The Kings Mix", which is a more straight-on house mix, with no real verse and chorus, and again, has virtually nothing in common with the original song.
So, in effect, this "single" is more of an EP than anything else, which is fine, and explains, as is often the case with Carey products, why it was such a success.

CAREY ON THE COUCH AND IN THE DIRECTOR'S CHAIR

After losing 30 pounds with Jenny, new commercials feature Mariah Carey swapping heartfelt stories with real weight loss clients.
Have you spotted Mariah Carey in a new set of Jenny commercials yet? The iconic singer and new mother of twins is getting intimate with fellow Jenny success stories with some casual girl talk in ads co-directed by Carey herself!

The new commercials, entitled "Girl Talk! Conversations with Mariah Carey" sit the musician down with three other clients as they chat about their new lives after losing a significant amount of weight.

"What inspired me most today was hearing the stories of Jenny clients," Carey explained in a behind-the-scenes interview. "I really feel like I was sitting with a bunch of friends. They're great women who have inspirational stories that people are gonna hear and just even get glimpses of… these women's lives, what they've been through, how Jenny has changed their lives for the better, and how they've actually evolved as people."

Carey was happy to take a spin in the director's chair for Jenny. "Co-directing this video was wow, these women are so triumphant," she said. "People not letting go of their dreams -- that's a theme that really is close to my heart. I had a great time."

In a second commercial, client Ronni Roseman is moved to tears when Mariah asks her to share her story about losing weight for the sake of her kids -- something that the singer said she identified with.

"For me, going through my struggles and having my babies and what I went through in terms of my health that I never expected… hearing these other women's stories, I felt like, wow, there are other people out there who go through similar things," she revealed.

Carey has not only been happy with the physical results from participating in the weight loss program, but her role as a spokesperson has also been a proud place for her as well. She reflected on her first commercials with Jenny that featured her singing "You Can Make It" in a sleek black outfit.

"It inspired them because it's like, with hard work and perseverance, one can make it," she said. "And that's a theme that I've had in many songs throughout my career and I think that's because I needed to hear that as a kid. I really needed to hear the encouraging words like that, inspirational songs like that."

Mariah Carey also revealed that she's currently in the studio working on her next album and already has the first four songs done. We can't wait!

The 2012 Mariah anniversary fan project

Mariah fans, we are welcoming all of you to join us in creating an amazing fan project for Mariah's "anniversary" on March 27th, 2012 (3.27). The idea is to show Mariah the support her fans have for her from all over the world. We may be far, but we are united in our love for MC.
To achieve our goal, we have created the official 3.27 traveling image which you can see above. We would love for you, Mariah's amazing fans, to print this image and take pictures and/or videos of yourselves with it. The traveling image has to be in your pictures/videos to get into the project.
We know Mariah's fans have the best ideas in the world, so feel free to be creative. If you live in Paris, take a picture in front of the Eiffel Tower. Of course, it doesn't have to be a monumental statue, even seeing the image travel to a small town in Alabama would be incredible.
Remember, let's make this festive for Mariah. So get your MC t-shirts on, grab a group of your friends, and get camera ready.

Mariah flaunts her toned legs in a tiny silver mini dress

She may be a huge mega star, but Mariah Carey can relate to many women's weight loss journeys. The 41-year-old singer is seen having a girly pow wow with some real Jenny (formerly Jenny Craig) clients in a new commercial for the company. The mother-of-twins is also seen showing off the results of her 30 pound weight loss following the birth of the babies in April, by parading her slender figure in a silver dress.
Preening and pouting for the camera, Mariah flicks her hair around as she poses in the metallic mini dress, her legs looking particularly toned. Her height is boosted by a pair of silver platform shoes and her tresses are coiffed in a voluminous wave.
A more casually dressed Mariah is also seen in between takes chatting to a circle of women about their weight loss. "People say why Jenny? Because Jenny gets results," she explains to the ladies. The superstar singer also carefully listens to the other women as they complain about other programs not working for them. "I tried so many weight loss programs before Jenny and they didn't work," one woman tells her. During the conversation Mariah also asks her gal pals what their favourite food is to snack on.

Mariah has lost more than 30 pounds since the April birth of her twins Monroe and Morocco, and it certainly shows. Her new commercial is yet another campaign in which the Butterfly singer has been confident enough to show off her newly slender self. At the end of last year she flaunted her stomach in another advert for the weight loss system. She appeared in a black bandeau top and sultry black skirt with thigh-high slits in the advertisement.
Mariah announced her role as the company's Brand Ambassador back in November last year. She had gained 30 pounds after the April birth of twins Moroccan Scott and Monroe and felt pressure from the media to shed the weight quickly. She told ABC News: "If they want to rag at me for looking like a huge boat, like that wasn't my fault, I couldn't help it. Carrying two human lives inside me and doing the best I could. What am I going to do?"
She started using the Jenny system herself in July last year; and credits the programme for 30 pounds of her weight loss and 40 pounds to the water weight she shed from her pregnancy. "I'm proud of how hard I worked to get my body back," she said on OWN's Rosie Show. "I had to do this for me."
She discussed her reasons for signing on with the company in a statement. The All I Want For Christmas Is You singer said: "As an artist, I use my voice to entertain. But, today I want to use my voice to draw attention to a serious matter. Two-thirds of the country is placing themselves at risk for heart disease and diabetes. Largely, that is due to unhealthy eating patterns and lack of physical activity."
She finished: "I obtained a greater understanding of this when I was pregnant with my twins and dealing with my own health issues. That's why I feel so strongly about working with Jenny and the American Heart Association to help Americans get serious about their health as it pertains to these issues which are so important."

Nick Cannon recovery: Mariah Carey "takes care of me"

Nick Cannon couldn't be more upbeat about things right now. Mariah Carey's significant other, who recently found himself in the hospital not once, but twice, as a result of a "lupus-type" autoimmune disorder, showed off his positive attitude during his appearance Monday on Good Morning America.
Not surprisingly, he's got one person in particular to thank for helping him on the road to recovery. "She's awesome. She's so nurturing," Cannon told GMA cohost Robin Roberts about his supportive and loving wife. "I call her Dr. Carey. She just takes care of me and makes sure I'm eating what I'm supposed to be eating."
The America's Got Talent host added that it's a side of Carey that the public never gets to see. "They don't know she's at home making egg whites," he said with a laugh. "Taking two babies in one arm and grilling in the other."
The two babies, of course, are the couple's twins - Monroe and Moroccan - who, if you can believe it, will already be turning 1 next month. And it's his kids that Cannon says were all he could think about during his health scare.
"In the hospital, that's the first thing that comes to your mind," he recalled. "I have to be around for my children and I have to be healthy for my children, so they're the motivation for the whole thing."

Delighted Mariah and Nick get into the Disney spirit

They may be the proud parents of two bouncing babies, but it was Mariah Carey and husband Nick Canon who were getting in touch with their inner child earlier this week. The couple couldn't hide their delight as they posed alongside Mickey and Minnie Mouse on New York Disney cruise ship Fantasy.
Nick, who has suffered from recent health problems, looked in good spirits as he posed alongside his beaming wife. She looked stunning in a blue patterned off the shoulder mini dress with sparkling earrings, while Nick wore a smart suit and tie as they linked arms with the much-loved Disney characters.
The singer struggled to hide her delight as she christened the new Disney cruise ship Fantasy at a star-studded ceremony in New York, promising to bring her children Moroccan and Monroe back to the vessel for some animated fun. The singer - who had a hit with a song of the same name as the ship back in 1995 - joined a host of stars including Jerry Seinfeld, Neil Patrick Harris and, of course, Mickey Mouse for the launch at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
Mariah launched the vessel, declaring: "I christen thee Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it." She added: "I'm going to love bringing my new babies here." The ceremony was held inside the ship's atrium with a larger-than-life bottle of champagne that sprayed the room with shiny confetti while Nick stood on deck with a real bottle in the company of Minnie Mouse.
Disney's CEO Bob Iger and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Tom Staggs were also present. "The Disney Fantasy is a spectacular addition to our fleet and builds on the creativity, innovation and artistry that are hallmarks of the Disney Cruise Line," said Iger. "Like her sister ship, the Dream, the Fantasy will connect guests to iconic Disney characters and storytelling, creating unforgettable, one-of-a-kind vacation experiences for the entire family."
The 4,000-passenger, 14-deck ship arrived in New York on Tuesday after travelling nearly 3,800 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Bremerhaven, Germany. The ship, which was built in Papenburg, will sail on seven-night Caribbean cruises starting on March 31 from Port Canaveral, Florida. It is the fourth to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet, and with its distinctive mouse ears logo, is nearly identical to the Disney Dream, which launched a year ago.
Both ships offer a water coaster ride called AquaDuck that consists of a flume wrapped around the vessel, virtual portholes that stream footage from exterior video cameras to inside staterooms, and pictures in hallways that become animated as guests walk by. There are also pools, water play areas, gigantic screens, sports and a theatre. The ship caters for everyone from young children to adults with age-specific areas.
The Fantasy pays homage to the Disney stories and passengers can eat in a French restaurant inspired by the movie Ratatouille or visit the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, named for the song from Cinderella, where little girls can get princess makeovers. The ship's Europa area offers five adult nightspots themed on different European countries, including a Champagne bar, Ooh La La, and an Irish pub, O'Gills.
The launch of Fantasy is the first of a number of new developments. The first phase of an expanded Fantasyland opens at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom theme park near Orlando this spring. Cars Land, based on the Disney-Pixar movie Cars, opens at Disney California Adventure Park in Anaheim, California, this summer.

Mariah Carey Dazzles During First Post-Pregnancy Performance

Singer Performs Hits at NYC Event, Shouts Out 'Dem Babies'

Just 10 months after giving birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe, a soulful and slender ("30 lbs [less] on Jenny Craig," according to her rep) Mariah Carey returned to the stage with a set at New York's Gotham Hall on Thursday night (Mar. 1). The performance was part of Caesar's Entertainment's "Escape To Total Rewards" launch event, which also featured performances by Lil Wayne, Maroon 5, Sara Bareilles and other artists simulcast from cities like Los Angeles, Chicago and New Orleans.

Backed by a full band and four more-than-game backup dancers, Mimi strutted across the stage in a tight black dress and clutched a diamond-encrusted microphone over the course of her 40-minute set. In between triumphant renditions of hits like "Always Be My Baby," "We Belong Together," "I'll Be There" and "Obsessed," Carey gave a shout-out to her husband Nick Cannon, who was in the building; got her makeup touched up onstage by a crack team of cosmetic specialists; and spoke candidly about Moroccan and Monroe, whom she referred to as "dem babies."

"Do I bring dem babies out?... They should be in bed!" she told the crowd. "I really wanted to bring them here tonight, but Monroe is sometimes shy and takes a while to warm up to an audience."

Nostalgia has a way of tugging at one's chords, emotionally and vocally. Last night, Mariah Carey blinded her loyal fans of their inability to professionally sing and ignore the consideration of those around them, singing along as if in their own private shower stalls. The highlight of the night came at the end of the show when Carey closed her set with her ballad, "Hero." All, femmes and men, forgot of the morning after's vocal repercussions and sang along from the top of their lungs.

Before Carey strolled onstage, Sean "Diddy" Combs delivered a scattershot performance to the New York crowd, rollicking through songs like "All About the Benjamins," "Mo' Money Mo' Problems" and "Coming Home." Former Spice Girls member Melanie Brown was on hand to serve as emcee at Gotham Hall.

Nick Cannon Says He Has Lupus-Like Autoimmune Disease

Nick Cannon is opening up about his ongoing health problems that came to light after he was hospitalized for kidney failure in January and then hospitalized again, weeks later, with blood clots in his lungs.

"The blood clot thing was probably the scariest because ... I've known people who have passed away from that," he told PEOPLE at New York's Teqa Restaurant and Tequila Bar, where he was deejaying an event Wednesday night.

"I thought I was getting better," said Cannon, 31, "and then that happened, so that kind of came out of nowhere."

Cannon, who stepped down from his New York-based radio show in February to continue his recovery, said doctors have told him his kidney condition is "something I'm going to be living with all my life."

"I'm just trying to make sure I put my health first," he told PEOPLE, adding that he tries to get six hours of sleep a night and has been taking it easy at home.

Mariah Carey returns to stage since giving birth

Mariah Carey made her return to the stage since giving birth to twins in diva-like form: She changed her shoes after singing two songs and touched up her hair and make-up in a one-sleeve black dress.

Carey gave birth to fraternal twins via C-section in April. She performed for a few hundred people Thursday night at New York's Gotham Hall.

Of her return she said: "I didn't realize this was a big deal."

The concert was one of four shows Thursday dubbed "Plot Your Escape: Four Concerts. Countless Celebrities. 1 Epic Night," by Caesars Entertainment.

Diddy joined Carey in New York, while Lil Wayne and Cee Lo performed in Los Angeles, Maroon 5 and Sara Bareilles in Chicago, and Mary J. Blige and Gavin DeGraw in New Orleans.
